Singer Sew Handy: a 1950’s toy that sews as good as my modern machine and perfect for RV living

Conestoga Chuck here! My human is always making things for us using her sewing machine thingy but recently she found this vintage 1950’s model (all metal) toy Singer sew handy 10-20 model in the thrift store. This thing is amazing! Super easy to use and my human can sew me all kinds of dog toys (hint hint) while we are traveling! Small (as you can see in the photos) so it stops easily. Just need a spot to clamp it so it stays in place and a handy picnic table works just fine. Easy to thread. And look at that neat and tight stitching! Perfect for hemming pants, making curtains or sewing some new dog toys! Hint hint! Recycle those old jeans and make me a toy human!

If you are boondocking, no worries this runs on hand power. Let’s see those muscles human! Got kids? Why not let them give it a try… it is technically a toy after all lol. But honestly this thing does almost better than the human’s fancy new expensive electric ginormous sewing machine back home if all you need is a simple straight stitch.

You can pick these up online but if you are buying as an antique the price is around $100-150. My human found this one at the local thrift store for $30, missing a few minor parts which she ordered online along with an instruction manual for an additional $22 … so $52 total price to get it up and running.

Human… go cut up those jeans and make me some new toys! I’m done talking about your new toy now get to work on mine!

  1. I had a 19th century one by Singer nearly like that. It had belong to my mother and to her aunt before her. When our house burned, goodbye Singer. Those little kids toys were well made and really do work!
