One of the things we did first was to remove the RV dinette set and replace it with this small desk and chair set and a matching storage unit that also serves as a coffee table beside the couch. If you are a crafter or work while traveling this little modification has been a really nice one. We found the desk, chair, and storage unit on amazon which was easy to match design and space limitations while shopping from the comfort of the RV. On the floor between the desk and the storage unit is the obligatory dog bed for Conestoga Chuck and his little sister to share for nap time. As a family (including the puppers) we all enjoy this easy DIY modification!
But back to the window cling film follow up! On our slide out we have two small windows at each end that really let the sun pound inside the RV and heat it up during the summer. We decided to put the matching stained glass design cling film on the top window to give more diffused light and heat dampening power. On the bottom window and all other windows that we enjoy looking out of during the day (and those all have individual awnings over them) we went with a light blue see thru tint that is UV and IR protectant and that helps with the heat as well!

As you can see, opening the windows on a cool day to enjoy the breeze is no problem. No peeling off of the tint just to slide open the windows if you trim it properly. If you work diligently when applying (we used plain tap water in a spray bottle and a store style credit card) there are no problems with it looking bad. If you don’t get it right you can just peel it off and reapply! But make sure you get the cling type and not the permanent type and work to get those bubbles out! The only issue so far is trying to focus our binoculars thru the window to view wildlife is a bit difficult. But the benefits of a cool RV on a hot summer day totally outweighs the binocular situation lol… and let me tell you it is a HUGE difference on keeping the RV cool!

This last photo is just another quick view of when we first installed the table, storage unit and puppers bed after removing the dinette set. The chair is awesome! We love this set up so much better than the old set up! I think the desk was actually listed as a TV stand lol and the matching storage cube was listed as a bedroom storage unit… so get creative and take measurement to see what will fit! Then make sure the chair is not too tall to work with what you have chosen.
As you can see on the last photo before we installed the cling film… the windows already have a very nice factory tint color on them, but the heat can be detrimental to human comfort and your pets health! Not to mention it is hard on your air conditioner unit trying to keep it in a comfort zone. We are much happier with the cling film than using other alternatives that we have tried, it really does make a huge difference! It’s an easy DIY that is not very costly and has high rewards. Worth the effort at home and in the RV! By cutting down the UV and IR you are also protecting from sun damage to your fabrics and carpet inside the home and RV… so that will save money in the long run as well.
