When living in an RV full time you quickly realize that laundry is an issue that can make or break your traveling pleasure. We have a splendide washer in our RV and recently replaced the 20+ year old splendide with a newer model simply because we couldn’t find repair parts for the old model anymore! I do appreciate the ability to have a washer/dryer combo in the RV! Mainly because storage is at a premium… which means one is limited in the amount of clothing you can have on hand. This becomes even more limited when you are packing for both summer and winter seasons! Another issue is a spot for dirty laundry. Not much room for a big laundry basket either! So wash and wear now has a new meaning lol
When at home at the big house I prefer to use my homemade laundry detergent but it just doesn’t seem to work as well in the splendide washer. Liquid and paste and powder detergents all seem to get gummed up in the machine and require regular cleaning. But I have a solution! When I was serving in the military and traveling a lot I discovered a product called washeze. It is a sheet similar to a dryer sheet that is infused with laundry detergent and softener. You simply throw it in with your laundry in the wash cycle and let it do it’s thing. It was very handy because it’s small, portable, easy to use, and you don’t have to worry about it making a mess in your duffle bag if it spills.
The sheets are made for a full sized load of laundry in a regular washing machine and come 10 sheets to a box. But since the loads in the splendide are much smaller and use much less water… I cut each sheet into thirds giving me 30 loads per box. I order these directly from the washeze website and have them shipped to me direct as they are hard to find in most stores. I also order these for my elderly parents because it is much easier on them not to have to lift a big heavy bottle of laundry detergent at home when they are doing laundry. It’s a convenience that we are willing to pay a little extra for.
So the next time you roll out for a trip in your RV don’t forget to order a couple of boxes of washeze! And yep you can even use them in the sink for hand wash only items! They even have an unscented version for those of us with allergies to the perfumed kind of detergents. Small, portable, won’t spill, economical, and easy to use. What more can you ask for while tiny living in an RV?
