We got Miss Kitty as a young kitten when we lived in Hawaii after our previous cat of 15 years had passed away. It was just too empty not having a companion in the house. We adopted her from a local vet who volunteered with the local humane society doing catch and release spaying programs for the huge feral cat colonies there. She had fostered miss kitty until she was old enough to be adopted which happened to be right around the same time our cat had passed away.
When she was a small kitten I noticed a couple unusual things about her. She didn’t purr like a normal cat. Instead of purring to show her happiness… she gives love nibbles, which took me a while to come to terms with. It took her almost 4 years to learn how to purr and even now when she purrs it is so quiet that you can’t hear it and can barely feel it. I’m of the opinion she was taught not to purr by her feral mother as a baby as a protection mechanism because rats are huge in Hawaii and there is a massive mongoose population. So I suspect this is a survival mechanism.
The next thing I learned is that she loves to play fetch. Yes, I said fetch! Just like a dog. She wants me to throw a toy so she can go run and get it and bring it back to me! I have never had a fetch playing cat before… that should have been my first clue she wasn’t gonna be a normal cat, right? She also loves to have her belly rubbed like a dog as well as her head scratched around the ears… but hates to have her back or any other body parts petted like a normal cat! it’s like she is a reverse cat. The areas a normal cat would scratch or bite you for petting are what she WANTS petted and vice versa. She also has a weird pattern to her coloring near her tail that looks like another cat when she sits on her haunches and we call that the brown evil twin kitty. That’s the ones that does bad things like knock things off the nightstand for no reason at all lol

So why do I think she is an ancestor reincarnated? She has to be my mother or grandmother or something like that because every morning she wakes me up at 6:30 am sharp! She does so by gently giving my arm a bite. If I don’t wake up fast enough she gives me a harder bite! Followed by fetching my reading glasses off the night stand and plopping them on (or near) my face. Then she fetches my cell phone by dragging it over in her teeth (also on the nightstand) and plops that down as close as she can drag it to me. Apparently these are the things I need to wake up in the morning! Now if that isn’t a maternal ancestor reincarnated in the form of a cat telling me to get up out of bed and start my day … well I really don’t know what else to call it? Lol
Occasionally she will bring me other objects, like the attachment to the vacuum cleaner as if to tell me it’s time to clean my room. Or the one morning she insisted on using a yarn ball to powder puff my cheeks, apparently I looked so bad I needed some makeup. Yep! Has to be a maternal ancestor reincarnated! Can’t be any other explanation!
Usually I write about the pups, but Miss Kitty deserves a write up all of her own lol. I’m honestly curious if anyone else has an alarm clock cat that brings them their reading glasses every morning? Lol …. or am I the only one with a maternal reincarnated ancestor living in the house? 🤪🐈😂🐈🥰
