Doggie comforts while camping

Conestoga chuck approves this endorsement and so does hiS little sister lil bit 🙂 I’m just typing what the pups are woofing for me to put into English for your reading enjoyment.

Forget those pop up canvas camping shades! Get a 10×10 doggie kennel instead! Place an indoor outdoor rug for their enjoyment plus lots of toys and training aids, a couple of chairs for the hoomans and a side table. Then buy a 10×20 tarp and some bungee chords for tarps and place over the top of the kennel and down the side. On top (we have yet to set up this part in the photos so I will update with new photos soon) buy two 12′ sections of thin PVC pipe and place in the kennel poles on top making a criss cross in the center that bows up to make the rain not puddle on the tarp top section. Use heavy duty zip strips to connect the criss criss in the middle. We also used heavy duty zip strips to attach the fencing so the kennel is easier to put up and take down when we move to our next camping location. We also placed some solar string lights along the top for ambiance. Never leave your doggies unattended while camping, there are way too many things that could harm them and if nothing else barking at the neighbors are a no-no! Also always call ahead and make sure there is room for your kennel at your campsite and that it is ok to use one.

The kennel cost $230 at Lowe’s and we got the tarp for $24 at Walmart along with the bungee straps $8 and the two sets of solar lights were $11 each. Since the only thing we would need to replace would be a $24 tarp if it rips and new zip strips when we move…. in my opinion this is a long term cost savings over those pop up shelters that usually break after a season of use. So I’m thinking not only is this more economical in the long run but it’s also very pleasant for both humans and doggies to enjoy the RV campsite off leash! Their very own private doggie park. It can also be used at home for a deer proof garden! So that is a win win!

Both dogs practically run to the door of their kennel every time we go outside … even on occasions when we want to take a walk on leash! They love their doggie park!

the other thing we found incredibly handy are linen surgical towels. We bought a box of 50 towels for $23 on amazon and they make the absolute best doggie paw cleaning towels, doggie drying towels, engine oil checking cloths etc… they are super easy to wash and we hang them to dry. They dry in no time at all! Which is a problem when trying to use terry cloth towels while camping or full time RV’ing. If you use them for checking the engine oil or some such other nasty use… we just toss that towel in the trash. Don’t bother trying to use the red flannel shop towels, they just don’t compare to the quality and multiple uses you can get out of the surgical towels. The ones we buy are slightly “defective” so not really good for hospital use but perfect for what we want them for! These are totally mom and dad approved!

Stay tuned for more Conestoga chuck camping fun!
