Mushroom gravy and steak instant pot rewrite of an old family favorite!

I’ve made this recipe for many years in a crock pot… but once I got my instant pot the old crock pot was quickly donated to goodwill along with the rice cooker and several other kitchen gadgets that my lovely instant pot replaced! The family loves this particular dinner and it’s really best if you have some bread or rolls or biscuits to sop up the gravy lol

First, place some butter in the IP along with some fresh mushroom and sauté the mushrooms. Then add 5 tablespoons of flour and stir till the four is incorporated and turning a bit brown (but not burnt) very similar to making sausage gravy. Then pour in one cup of milk and one cup of water and add some beef bouillon.

Simple right!?!?! You now have mushroom gravy or cream of mushroom soup which is very yummy if you just wanna stop here and have soup lol. I also added a bit of smoked salt, onion powder, and ground white pepper (to taste). If it’s not thick enough just add a tad bit more flour to thicken it. If it’s too thick for your liking then just add some more milk or water.

This isn’t rocket science… so just play it by ear and make it taste and have the consistency you like. Seriously if I can do it, so can you!

Now switch the IP from sautéed to slow cooker medium heat setting.

Then take some thin cut steaks and drop them in the mushroom gravy/soup and cover them with your yummy mushroom sauce. Allow to slow cook for about 4-6 hours or until fall apart tender 🙂 the time required to cook really depends on the thickness of the steaks but honestly you can’t overlook this in my opinion… it’s one of those meals that the meat just keep getting more tender the longer it slow cooks. This works great with really cheap cuts of meat so don’t worry about getting anything fancy!

Don’t forget the biscuits!!!! Since this was a buy one get one free deal on the meat… and the mushroom were also on sale…I also don’t include ingredients I already have as common staples in the house (like flour, milk and butter etc) in my cost estimates… so this meal cost me about $8 and can easily feed a family of 4 .. add some steamed veggies on the side and some homemade biscuits and you can easily feed a lovely meal for a family of 4 for well under $10!

You might even have some leftovers for your lunch box for the next day… and trust me your coworkers will be completely jealous of the fabulous smells when you reheat this meal in the microwave! It honestly is even better the next day lol. So go ahead and make your coworkers drool while they eat something (gah) that they picked up in the frozen pizza isle or at the gas station and comes out of a cardboard box! Lol

Hope you enjoy! Happy eating! Eat fresh, eat natural, eat what makes you feel good! And save yourself a ton of money while you enjoy it! 🙂

(Conestoga Chuck just told me to lay off with the exclamation points… but seriously… it really is good enough to justify many, many, many exclamation points … and besides how would a dog know about exclamation points anyway?)
