Conestoga Chuck here! Sometimes I get a bit mischievous and go for a walk-about without my human and lil bit usually goes with me. We usually don’t stray far but (giggle giggle) sometimes we like to give the human a merry chase… she’s putting on a bit of weight and the exercise does her good…
Human here: HEY!!! Conestoga Chuck! I am not putting on weight!!! Well… not much anyway lol ok maybe I am… but your walk-abouts can be a pain in my back! Literally! Because without a leash it’s really hard to round up a big dog and a small dog at the same time! And it never fails that they decide to get mischievous when I don’t have a leash handy! They’ve only done it twice and usually come when called but still …trying to get them both back in the yard can be challenging because of their varying size and my inability to bend over for long… not to mention when it happens while we are out camping! It’s all about their safety at this point. So I decided to purchase a product called an emergency leash and this is approved and recommended by Conestoga Chuck’s human lol
You can get yours here Emergency leash

It was easy to order, not expensive, arrived in a timely manner, and works as described. It’s easy to use, which for someone with weak hand strength is important. I ordered one for lil bit and one for Conestoga Chuck. They have had theirs for a few months now and I’ve used them twice with Conestoga Chuck as a leash (he is still in his puppy antics stage and still learning) once at the campground over the summer… and boy was I glad I had it!
I was taking something outside and didn’t get the camper door closed all the way and while I had my back turned he opened the door with his nose, did a couple victory laps around the camper before I noticed he was out (lil bit was barking to tattle tale on him from inside the camper doorway… good girl!) so I called him and he came to me (met me half way) I pulled out the emergency leash from his collar and gave him praises for coming when called and walked him back to the camper without having to bend over (not killing my bad back in the the process). We always praise them when they come when called… because if you yell at them for getting out as they are coming to you when you call them… they are getting conditioned NOT to come when called if you think about it. From their viewpoint you are yelling at them for coming, not for escaping. Their attention span just isn’t that long. They are in the here and now, not the 5 seconds ago.
Back in the camper he got treats for coming when called, lil bit got treats for staying inside (door wide open) and letting me know the big guy was loose. Took a second to reel up the emergency leash and everyone was happy, potential camping catastrophe avoided. No lost dog, no dog hit by a car driving by, no bad back thrown out and a doctor visit for me etc…
So the human approves this emergency leash for wearing on the collar for larger dogs with longer fur. For lil bit who has short fur it rubbed her neck to the point of irritation and fur loss so I had to remove it from her collar. No worries I just keep it on my keychain or in my purse or pocket or on my belt loop as an extra back up. She hardly has any fur on her neck in the first place being a short hair 20 lb mini pinscher chihuahua mix… so this just wasn’t the right product for her particular body. Just because it wasn’t a good fit with her body type doesn’t mean it isn’t useful. I’m still happy I bought two. I just adapt how I carry it. What if we are out walking and a leash breaks? I have a spare on my keychain. See what I mean…

So if you have a doggie… I can highly recommend this product. It’s up to you to decide if you put it on their collar or keep it on a keychain tho π …and Conestoga Chuck quit telling people I’m gaining weight!!!! Geeze just because I bought pants in a bigger size….(fade out, stage left, for a private discussion between the human and Conestoga Chuck about manners lol )
