Halloween decorating fun

Decorating for Halloween can be fun and inexpensive if you get creative. Our supplies came from the garden and goodwill this year.

Garden bamboo stakes

Round tomato cage

Two solar lights from the garden

Roll of silver cloth from goodwill $3

Bale of straw from local farm supply store $7

Shirt and pants from goodwill $10

Plastic Pumpkins from goodwill $3

Hat .50 cents from goodwill

$23.50 and our decorations are fabulous!

First we made this hysterical scarecrow. The neighbors were out and since the scarecrow was mooning their house we made sure to tell them it wasn’t meant for them in particular lol. We used garden stakes and then placed the clothes over the garden stakes and stuffed them with straw. Drilled a hole in the pumpkin to slide it down over the garden stake so it doesn’t blow away. Same with the hat. We used 3 garden stakes total. Two for the legs and one to hold up the head and body (and a few zip strips and twine).

The we made our ghost (everyone else says it looks more like an alien and I’m cool with that too lol) by staking down a tomato cage upside down with tent pegs so it won’t blow away. Filled a plastic grocery sack with some straw, slide it on top, and tied it with the bag handles and then some twine so the straw won’t fall out. Then draped three rows of cloth over the body and tied around the neck area to hold it all together. A couple of snips with the scissors and we had an easy spot to insert the tops from some solar lights to make him glow at night… the material is a sparkly silver loose weave burlap type so it should light up nicely. It sparkles great in the sunlight!

We had some material left over, but not enough to make a second ghost/alien (whatever lol) so we cut squares, made a small ball of straw, and tied it with twine similar to how we made the bigger one and then hung them from the trees for a couple of flying ghosts/aliens (whatever lol). Immediately after we hung the little guys up we got a visitor… sooooo cute! Photo is courtesy of my friend Violet… she got a better shot than I!

Then the mailman stopped to deliver our mail and all our decorations are next to the mailbox and he was cracking up at the scarecrow! Said he was going to go home and make one just like ours. The best compliment in life is when someone copies your artwork lol. So go make a scarecrow! Get crazy! Have fun! Make your neighbors laugh! Laughter is healthy and our neighbors must be very healthy after watching our antics today.
